I want to get a theremin-playing cat, but I don’t know what kind to get.

A Bengal, of course.

Actually, I have a tortoiseshell calico that plays piano – mostly to upset the other cats, who are afraid of the sound. The Bengal hasn’t show any interest in that sort of keyboarding. I think Bengals are best for electronics.

Given the country of origin, possibly a Russian Blue. On the other hand, Manx cats don’t have tails to get caught in (or accidentally affect) the antennae.
It’s probably impractical to hold auditions. Maybe you could go to a pet store/rescue shelter with a Beach Boys or They Might Be Giants recording and see if any of the cats show an interest?

LOL! All cats that have paws and naturally curious will make a great theremin player. No one breed is better than the other. As long as the cat is open to all kinds of new experience, he will have the talent to entertain and amuse both you and himself.
