My cat is in an inside cat. Zero contact with other cats, however, when I got him, he was an outside cat. He’s almost 6 months old, got him when he was 7 weeks. I just discovered tonight that on the tip of his right ear, the skin is kind of crusty and cracked and is close to peeling. Not just the skin, but the hair too; like sheets of hair. Does this sound like mange or do any of you know of any other condition it sounds like? Thanks a ton ahead of time!!! =)
Does Anyone Know Anything About Cats And Mange Or I Suppose Skin Conditions In General?

Whatever it is, the Vet needs to see this kitty before it gets worse.
My friend has 8 cats — and they all came down with ringworm — imagine taking em to the vet and then trying to medicate all 8!! He did — and everyone recovered.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
No salves or ointments made for human skin conditions will help — in fact they might even poison your kitty– so take him to the vet to find out exactly what is wrong with your kitty, and what you need to do for his skin condition.
He has no contact with other animals but you may have brought something into the house on your shoes, briefcase, backpack, whatever. That happens sometimes. Maybe even a new potted plant might have some kind of fungus in its soil that could be picked up by little critters who are very close to floor level (like kitties).
The vet will be your BEST source of information and cure. Hope everything turns out fine.

That dosen,t sound like mange.Mange takes only a few days to develop
usaly starts around the mouth and elbows. The first signs are red bumps
and then it speads like wildfire .The poor animal is in so much pain and distress you can see it in their expression. This sounds like an infected insect bite,Try pollysporn, and wash it with salt water. If that dosent help call a vet

yea i know a little, im an animal cops freak (on animal planet) and i alsways see cats and dogs go on there with alot of hair loss and nasty looking skin and from what they say there are two types of mange sarcoptic and dymadex or somthing and sarcoptic is a pretty common one and very treatable and demodex is a little more serious and acually the animal has the mite in its skin always but when it shows on the skin (hair loss and scabbing) is when theres a problem and nobody knows what causes the mite to grow out of control but when it does the only way to treat it is to go to the vet and get medicine

It may be ringworm. If it is in the form of a circle that is one method of detection. If my memory serves correctly, (from when my kitten had it) ringworm shows up in a blacklight. Ringworm is very contagious even to humans. It is a skin condition, there are no “worms” involved even though it is called that. Time to get him checked at the vet’s.
