Cats come by my window everynight and meow for several hours, keeping me awake. I live in a townhouse, and dont have a yard in the front, so my dog is of little help. what can I do short of getting a gun?

Get your dogs urine and spread it around outside.
Or catch the cats in the act with a watergun (I assume that’s not the gun you were talking about). Cats learn fast when places aren’t safe or when water is involved.
Keep in mind that cats are territorial like dogs (and they will keep coming back to their favourite places). Also, cats have this air to them where they know you don’t like what they’re up to but you swear they’re doing it just because it pisses you off and it makes them feel powerful to piss off such a big creature. This is probably why they bother dogs so much.
I love cats, but a meowing cat when you’re trying to sleep is pretty annoying.
I would definetly buy a supersoaker and wage war on those suckers for a few nights. They should probably back off, and if they don’t you can at least get some revenge.
Or maybe water balloons. That would really freak a cat out.
